Estimated Casualties: 75 total

Rearguard cavalry action. A brigade of Union cavalry under Col. William Well's (Custer's Division) attacked Fitzhugh Lee's cavalry near Namozine Church on April 3. Confederate Gen. Rufus Barringer was captured nearby.




AMELIA COURT HOUSE  

April 4-5, 1865

Lee brought his troops to this location from Richmond and Petersburg, hoping to continue on to North Carolina and join up with General Joseph E. Johnston's army.




JETERSVILLE  


Jetersville - 2007


April 5, 1865

On April 5, on his advance toward North Carolina, Lee ran into Union forces here and changed his direction to Farmville.




AMELIA SPRINGS  

April 5, 1865


Location of the Battle at Amelia Springs - 2007


Estimated Casualties: 250 total

On April 5, Confederate cavalry under Fitzhugh Lee and Rosser assaulted Union cavalry under George Crook as they returned from burning Confederate wagons at Painesville. This running fight started north of Amelia Springs and pushed through and beyond Jetersville.
